Pokémon TCG Booster Box vs Elite Trainer Box vs Booster Bundle: What's Inside Each

Most Pokémon TCG expansions come in three sealed formats that are mostly booster packs: the booster box, the Elite Trainer Box and the booster bundle. They differ in how many packs you get and what else is in the box. In current Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution sets, each booster pack contains 10 cards and 1 Basic Energy.

Booster box (booster display)

A booster box, also called a booster display, holds 36 booster packs from one expansion. For example, the Mega Evolution Perfect Order booster box contains 36 packs, each with 10 cards and one Basic Energy. In recent Mega Evolution sets, such as Pitch Black, each pack also includes a Pokémon TCG Live code card.

It's the format for opening a lot of packs at once: building the set, chasing a particular card or sharing the packs out.

Elite Trainer Box (ETB)

An Elite Trainer Box has fewer packs but adds everything you need to play. The Phantasmal Flames Elite Trainer Box, for example, contains:

9 booster packs
1 full-art foil promo card (Charcadet)
40 Pokémon TCG Energy cards
65 card sleeves
6 damage-counter dice and 1 competition-legal coin-flip die
A player's guide to the expansion
A collector's box with 6 dividers
A code card for Pokémon TCG Live

The extras vary a little between sets. Scarlet & Violet Elite Trainer Boxes such as Paradox Rift include 45 Energy cards and 2 plastic condition markers, while the 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box has 16 foil Basic Energy cards and a plastic coin. The promo card is different in every set.

It's the format for players, and it makes a good gift, because the sleeves, dice and storage box come with it.

Booster bundle

A booster bundle contains 6 booster packs, for example the Ascended Heroes booster bundle and the Black Bolt booster bundle. It's the smallest of the three, and a simple way to try a new set. We sometimes sell bundles by the sealed case: the Shrouded Fable Booster Bundle Box holds 60 packs.

Which should I buy?

The most packs: a booster box, with 36.
To play the game: an Elite Trainer Box, for its sleeves, Energy cards, dice and storage box.
To try a set or as a smaller gift: a booster bundle, with 6 packs.
