Gundam Card Game for Beginners: Which Product Should You Buy First?
The Gundam Card Game brings the mobile suits and pilots of the Gundam series to a trading card game, with Unit, Pilot, Command and Base cards. If you're starting out, here is what each product contains and who it suits.
Starter decks: the place to start
A starter deck is ready to play straight out of the box. The Flash of Radiance (ST08) starter deck, for example, contains:
- A ready-to-play 50-card deck
- 10 Resource cards
- 2 Token cards
- A paper damage counter
- A rule sheet and playsheet
- A bonus pack
Each deck is built around one or two Gundam series, so pick the series you like best: Celestial Drive (ST07) is Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Flash of Radiance (ST08) is Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash, and Destiny Ignition (ST09) is Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Some decks add extras: Destiny Ignition also has 22 extra cards and 6 damage counter dice. See every starter deck and set.
Booster packs and booster boxes
Booster packs add new cards to your collection and your deck. Each Gundam Card Game booster pack has 12 cards, and a booster box holds 24 packs, as with the Phantom Aria (GD04) and Steel Requiem (GD03) boxes. Every booster set features different Gundam series, so a set that includes your favourite series is a good place to begin.
Deck Build Box
The Deck Build Box (SC01) is a quick way to build your own deck. It includes 125 reprinted cards (25 in each of the 5 colours), so you can build a deck by combining two colours. It also has 4 Freedom Ascension (GD05) booster packs, Resource and Token cards, a playsheet, a half storage box, other accessories, and a bonus pack with an exclusive EX Base. The reprinted cards are standard, non-foil cards.
Premium Collection: Gundam Assemble Set
The Premium Collection Gundam Assemble Sets (PC01A and PC02A) include 3 GUNDAM ASSEMBLE miniatures, 14 premium alternate-art cards, a bonus pack and an assembly and rule sheet. GUNDAM ASSEMBLE are miniature Gunpla that you build yourself, and they can sit on token cards while you play.
Which should I buy?
- Your first game: a starter deck for the Gundam series you like.
- To build your own deck: the Deck Build Box, or booster packs from a set you like.
- To open lots of packs: a booster box, with 24 packs.
- As a gift for a Gunpla fan: a Premium Collection Gundam Assemble Set.
